Everyone's geeking out about the new Ford GT, and there are a couple asshats going on about what kind of MPGs it will get.

Really!?

It's a 600 HP Supercar! That's not the point.

And Ford choosing to use their 3.5TT V6 isn't so much about economy as it is proving that it's a viable technology and winning people over to buying their trucks powered by the same engine.

Yes, and what makes it viable? The combination of power AND economy. MPG is extremely important for modern supercars - not for the owner maybe, but for the halo effect and brand image.

Yes, but how am I supposed to know why hypothetical purchase I'm supposed to make on a super car I will never afford if I don't even know the fuel economy. I bet it's not even a hybrid and can't carry three bags from Wholefoods in the trunk.

As and added benefit it is a cool bragging point, but it would seem that it's all some people care about when discussing the new Supercar conept, that clearly isn't built specifically with amazing economy in mind like the 918 and P1 were.

I'm sure MPG will be better than the supercharged V8 from the previous GT. If you drive it gently. Not too fast. Easy on the loud pedal.

It is an interesting thing, that the MPG-obsession of the most un-enthusiast layers of our society has so pressed into wackiness the expectations of the public at large for things for which it doesn't make any sense. If it's a lucky bonus from tall gearing, good aero, low weight, and an optimized engine, that's one thing - but it shouldn't even be on the first three pages of aims IMHO.

BTW, Daily don't worry about it. Just hope that the car gets into a lot of racing games. We would have 3 generations of GT(40) to choose from!
